I picked up The Voyage of the Sable Keech on a whim from the public library once and got about 50 pages into it before I realized there was something wrong. There is nothing worse than picking up in the middle of a series and only understanding half of whats going on.

Liviu Suciu's review of The Technician is invaluable to me because it starts off with a guide to reading Asher's Polity series in the order to best enjoy each novel. I'll be getting around to the Sable Keech and The Technician soon after I read the first few books in the series.
