Calibre OPDS server fantastic companion to wi-fi tablet

I finally got the Calibre OPDS server working. I had been using the external IP number and some port forwarding at the router, as well as a username/password. I switched to the internal IP number (192.168.1.100) and now Aldiko displays the OPDS list and downloads books just fine.

Now I have to seriously look at putting all of my e-books into Calibre.

The important/interesting new features, at least for me:

• Page turn animations in the e-book viewer
• EPUB Output: Add an option to flatten the EPUB file structure, specially for FBReaderJ.
• EPUB Output: Ensure all files inside the generated EPUB have unique filenames, to support broken EPUB readers like Stanza, Aldiko, FBReader and Sigil.

The page animation might be more enjoyable (combined with the new(?) ability to turn pages using the mouse wheel) if the paging worked consistently (ie first line of new page is always the line after the last line of the last page.

Bug Fixes

• Various fixes to the Title Case function
  
• Content server: Fix --url-prefix being ignored for links at the Top level
  
• News download: When generating periodicals for the SONY use the local timezone in the SONY specific metadata
  
• Fix bug in cover cache that could cause it to keep a large number of covers in memory. Showed up when adding large numbers of books to calibre.
  
• Adding books: Run in the main thread to prevent unfortunate interactions with the metadata backup. Also fix regression that broke the Abort button.
  
• Fix a crash on OS X if OK is clicked inthe edit metadata button while downloading a cover
  
• E-book viewer: Fix a regression that prevented booksmarks from working with some EPUB files
  
• Save to disk: Refactor to not open a database connection in the worker process. Also fix a bug that could lead to save failures not being reported.
  
• Fix regression in 0.7.32 that broke opening formats in the ebook viewer from the edit metadata dialog
  
• FB2 Output: Generate output 100% compliant with the FB2 spec
  
• Fix Saved search dropdown box looses selected search
  
• TXT Output: Fix an issue where the br to space conversion was not being handled properly.

More features. More bug fixes. Is this thing awesome or what? Its got more features than any single user needs or uses. Of note to me I was interested in:

• Improve startup times for large libraries by caching the has_cover check
• Update windows binary build to use python 2.7
• Metadata and cover download plugins from Nicebooks (disabled by default)

If you haven't got it yet then you are not reading ebooks.

"Update the version of the grahical toolkit (Qt 4.7.1) used in the calibre binary builds on windows and linux. This should result in a significant speed up for the calibre ebook viewer"

Bunch of minor new features updated drivers and bug fixes. The new graphical toolkit does make an appreciable difference with the viewer.
I've been using the book viewer a bit more lately as both the viewer grown more solid and the typical ePub I get my hands on has become more standards compliant.

A bunch of new features and bug fixes as well as support for new devices, including the bargain tablet the Eken M001 ($102 Cdn). I still haven't put all my eggs in the Calibre basket because it doesn;t support my ebookwise e-reader, but I will definitely base my next hardware purchase on how well it is supported by Calibre.
